Keeping spammers at bay

Hi,
like I said in an earlier post, it seems like spammers have found the way into my E-card system.
Fortunately, the emails don't go anywhere and I just throw them away (they are all something like xyz@uiwterdsfa.com).

However, it is still a bit annoying seeing that appear in your notification.

I also had a similar probem with two PHPBB forums i run, and I have now sined up to "Recaptcha" from Google, which eems a lot more secure to me.

The principle is quite simple: you have to enter our URL on the Recaptcha site and then you get a public and a privte key, which you both have to enter on the reserved spaces on our site.

I was wondering if thee would be any way to implement Recaptcha into Maian greetings.

That would be a great help.

Thank you.

Re: Keeping spammers at bay

It would be fairly easy to implement recaptcha in maian greetings. But that would require code changes. Its not something I`ll get to until I revise the script, which is a long way off. Your best bet would be to have a go yourself?

On the asiacard.co.uk I implemented a figlet captcha, thats been pretty good too. Not had a single spam bot on the asia card site.

Re: Keeping spammers at bay

I would say that I`m in the process of doing websites for all scripts at the moment, so while I`m doing at least something for Maian Greetings I`ll have a look about integrating the captcha.

Re: Keeping spammers at bay

Thanks.
By the way, on the Recaptcha website there is some good information about implementing Recaptcha through PHP (which is obviously like Chinese to me, but coud be helpful to you).

You can find this information here: http://code.google.com/apis/recaptcha/docs/php.html

Regards.

Re: Keeping spammers at bay

I`m already familiar with it, I`ve implemented it in the last version of Maian Support.
