No problem. PHP can be a pain sometimes.

In the main index.tpl.php template you can put the one var under the other?

CATEGORIES_LEFT; ?>
CATEGORIES_RIGHT; ?>

Leaving the right side blank. But they`ll probably be out of order. So, you`ll need to open the 'classes/recipes.php' file and tweak the 'buildCategories' function. Remove the if statement in the while loop and just have one block of code.

I am still teaching myself php and sorry if this seems like something I should know, but on the main page under the "Our Recipe" section you have two columns to list the recipe categories. A left column and the right column. My question is how do I make both lists into just 1 column on the left side so that I can use the right (middle) column for a type of blog or possible picture section?

I appreciate your help, and I enjoy working with this script!
