Couple of quick Q's after getting to grips a bit..

Hello,

1) I have seen settings for email and occasionally problems with email pop up on this forum. Can i ask more about what the 'email' function is for and how you implement it? (a link to a resource or documentation page would be great think my eyes are tired now but cant find it)

2) Ive posted a few times on this forum before and think itd probably be better to reword a question i asked previously as ive noticed it being asked in diff ways in other threads and cant seem to find an answer

I am using maian music without joomla. I want to customise my navigation menu links (simply what the anchor text reads for example). Where abouts do I customize this as i cannot find it in the admin area.

3) i wwas  asked in an earlier post if i was using maian music with joomla - i am not. would it be more beneficial to me if i used this with joomla (i dont think i can) and are there features that are unavailable to me/not supported otherwise?

Thankyou very much and v grateful for the forum being here.

Re: Couple of quick Q's after getting to grips a bit..

The only reason I asked about Joomla is I don`t offer any support for Joomla installations. I don`t use it and I have no interest in any Content Management Systems.

With regards to the e-mails, I`m not sure what you are asking, sorry. What e-mail function?

Re: Couple of quick Q's after getting to grips a bit..

Okay thanks for clarifying that.

With regard to emails, I first noticed the SMTP settings section of "Settings" within admin. I searched this forum for "email", and found this thread:
http://www.maianscriptworld.co.uk/forum … hp?id=1033

Which leads me to assume there is customer mailing functionality within maian music - is the function to send the customer a 'thankyou for your purchase' email, or a mailing list function? Or is it a backup for the contact form if this doesnt function?

id probably have a better insight into this if my own version of the music store worked. the hosts of this site are literally telling me theres a problem with the script and they can't get around it (which i dont quite understand - it doesnt look like maian music requires anything more than basic to function..) i would really appreciate an insight into why it might be that they can't get it to work properly.

I've posted on three external forums now for help because i didnt want to bother you (I can understand youre providing a free resource anyway and have better things to do) but nobody seems to know much about maian music i guess - no replies at all.

As i said im usually quite competent with editing php, but without full functionality i cant really get a full insight on how the script works and what to change.

Re: Couple of quick Q's after getting to grips a bit..

Which parts are not working at the moment?

The SMTP email options are simply an alternative send method. If this isn`t enabled the system uses the standard PHP mail function to send e-mails. This works on most servers, but some hosts disable this function and require all mail be sent via SMTP. Some hosts require SMTP authentication, others don`t. Different options.

If the e-mails work, no need to enable this option. So, best one to test is the contact option. If that works, all e-mails should be working ok. Payment e-mails are controlled by Paypal`s response, so if they don`t work, the problem is likely to be with Paypal or the way the system is set up.

Re: Couple of quick Q's after getting to grips a bit..

okay - so the email function within maian music is just to send anyone who uses the contact form a confirmation email that their message was sent?

my problem is that although the index page works, when i try to go to any other page by clicking a link within the nav bar, i get a 404. i noticed that within header.php of the script, where the urls that the links point to are defined, that the folders/filenames there dont match any subfolders or filenames that i have within the entire music shop folder. so, in the most basic form, thats the problem. but im not sure whether i should add them in, add someting to a database, or whether the script should make them itself when you upload music. the main prob is i wasnt the one who installed, the hosts were (this is not my site), and theyre pretty much shrugging their shoulders about it.

Did you read the section in the docs about Mod Rewrite and search engine friendly urls?
